The Latvian Library for the Blind in Riga invites you to an online meeting “COFFEE BREAK with Dr. Uģis Nastevičius, lecturer in Japanese language and culture” on 15 March at 15.00. The event will take place in person or can be watched live at the Latvian Library for the Blind On YouTube.
The Latvian Library for the Blind has reproduced the book “Japanese Poetry” by Uģs Nastevičius in Braille.
The book “Japanese Poetry” collects several Japanese tanka and other poetry works. It is published in Braille with the pronunciation of the verses in Japanese and a translation into Latvian, as well as three tactile illustrations. The collection is accompanied by an audio disc, with the verses and other poetry in Japanese and Latvian. The Japanese texts were read by visiting student Daiki Kobayashi from Odawara, Japan, and the Latvian texts were translated by Uģis Nastevičs. The aim of the audio recording is to give readers the opportunity to learn some tanka in Japanese. To do this, it is not enough to know how to say it, but you also need to know in what intonation and with what accents to say it.
To introduce this unique book, the Latvian Library for the Blind in Riga, 80 Strazdumuižas Street, will hold an online meeting “Coffee Break with Dr. Uģis Nastevičius, Lecturer in Japanese Language and Culture” on 15 March at 15.00. The event will be both live and in person at the Latvian Library for the Blind. On YouTube. Viewers will be able to ask questions and make comments.
