Currently, Jelgava TO has 176 registered members.
The aim of the Jelgava Territorial Organisation is to bring together people who have partially or completely lost their sight, to provide them with the support they need and to help them integrate successfully into society. To organise and provide various activities for visually impaired people in social, health, lifelong learning and cultural fields.
History:
1961. On 27 November 2010 Jelgava Society for the Blind is founded. Its founders are the then Chairman of the CV of the Latvian Society of the Blind Jānis Čakste, Inspector Silvija Balode, and a member of the Bauska group Ivars Pinte. This Organisation united visually impaired people from Bauska, Dobele and Jelgava, 11 members in total.
1961. On 27 November 2010, the 1st office of the Jelgava organisation is elected. Chairman Visvaldis Zīlītis.
In 1963, the Saldus group of blind members was added to the Jelgava organisation.
In 1974, Alfrēds Lasmanis became chairman of the Jelgava pre-organisation.
From 12 April 1981 to 1 March 1983, the Jelgava TO of the LNB is headed by Skaidrīte Vanaga.
From 1 March 1983 to 5 March 1997, the Jelgava TO of the LNB is headed by Guntis Zvīgulis.
1998
23 February 2007 – 23 August 2012 The Jelgava TO is headed by Svetlana Sproģe.
23 August 2012 – 27 April 2017 The Jelgava TO is headed by Ieva Eižvertiņa.
27 April 2017 The Jelgava TO is headed by Ilze Makarova Makaronoka.
