The Rezekne Territorial Organisation of the LNB was founded on 25 May 1974. At that time, the number of members was 174, but today the number of members has reached 419.
The first President is Grigory Vaganov. 1982. Valentina Lansberga was elected and currently serves as the organisation’s President. Viktors Filatovs, the Vice-Chairman of the Rezekne TO of the LNB, is an active cultural worker and a prolific reader of his own poetry.
The Rezekne Territorial Organisation of the Latvian Association for the Visually Impaired unites visually impaired people from Rezekne, Ludza, Zilupe, Kersava, Preili, Livani, Vilani towns, districts and municipalities.
Since 1984, the organisation has been located in Rezekne, at 20 Bukmuižas Street, in a building built with the funds of the National Library of Latvia and owned by the National Library of Latvia. Opening hours: every working day from 10:00 to 13:30, address: 20 Bukmuižas Street, Rezekne (public transport stop Latgales Street “Tirgus”).
For the visually impaired:
- learn about your rights;
- apply for the technical aids you need;
- is involved in amateur activities: singing, poetry reading, concert programmes;
- Handicrafts;
- Braille;
- computer science;
- gym and other classes
Since 2000, the Rezekne branch of the Latvian National Library of Latvia has been located in the premises of the Rezekne TO, where visually impaired people can receive social rehabilitation services and reintegrate into society.
