The Strazdumuiža organisation of the Latvian Society for the Blind in the Vidzeme suburb of Riga was founded on 14 June 1958. Initially the name of the organisation was Riga MRU – I micro-district organisation, but from 17.04.1996. 3-25 it was decided to approve the new name of the organisation – Strazdumuiža Organisation of the Latvian Society for the Blind of Riga City Vidzeme Suburb. It was proposed by the Board of Riga MRU – I district. The organisation is mainly composed of people with visual disabilities who live in Braila Street (the so-called Blind Village).

The organisation still has a local radio station that informs people about various interesting and topical issues every working day. The organisation has a long-standing cooperation with Riga City Council, since March 2007, providing information support services and leisure activities for people with visual impairments or visual disabilities at the Strazdumuiza Day Centre.

The organisation currently has 207 members on its books.

Pēteris Locāns has been the organisation’s Chairperson since March 1997 and Vice-Chairperson Uģis Skuja since April 2017.
