Latvian Blind Society “International White Cane Day” 13 October at 10.00. 12:00 In Riga, Aspazijas Boulevard, in front of the Laima Clock organise a flash event – “Environment for all!” Everyone is welcome to participate.
The aim of the campaign is to promote the importance of the white cane and to make people aware of the challenges faced by people with visual impairments. The campaign will focus on the importance of an adapted environment when a visually impaired person moves around the city.
The White Cane is a foldable, adjustable-length orientation cane that helps people with visual impairments navigate indoors and outdoors. However, it is important that pedestrians, cyclists and scooter riders understand its importance and know how to react to a situation where a person with a white cane is moving.
An adapted, high-quality environment is one of the criteria for people with visual impairments to be able to move without obstacles, using special guides marked on pavements. Are there such facilities in the city centre? Let’s explore together!
