Liepaja Society of the Blind since 1956 unites people with visual and other disabilities and seniors from Liepaja and 11 Kurzeme districts.
The mission of the Society is to work and serve people with disabilities today, to care for their spiritual and temporal needs, to promote their participation, so that everyone is involved, belonging and useful.
The organisation focuses on issues related to social rehabilitation, employment, education, and environmental accessibility, helping people with disabilities to integrate into society and actively participate in its processes. Liepaja Society for the Blind offers various activities, publishes the society’s newsletter “Light in the Darkness” in sighted and Braille, and in audio format.
We have established a social rehabilitation and cognitive centre for people with all kinds of disabilities “Garden of Soul’s Relief” in Ziemupe, Vērgale municipality, Pāvilosta region. The aim of this centre is to provide social rehabilitation opportunities for people with visual and other disabilities in a rural environment – the opportunity to enjoy nature, work in the garden, improve skills and senses in various activities and engage in physical activities.
