Technical aids
Tiflotekhnika are special technical aids designed for persons with functional visual impairments or anatomical defects for rehabilitation, integration into society, mobility and independent working.

1. Documents required
In order to receive a technical aid, a person or his/her legal representative shall submit, send electronically (if the electronic document has been prepared in accordance with the normative acts on electronic document processing) or by post the following documents:
- Written application in free form or using the form ( Appendix No.1 ), indicating the name, surname, personal identification number, home address, telephone number, e-mail address (if any), the technical aid required, as well as information on the preferred method of communication (by coming in person to the Society or sending the information by post or electronically if the person or his/her legal representative has agreed to communicate by electronic mail).
- If the application is submitted by the person’s legal representative, the application shall additionally indicate the personal data of the person’s legal representative and be accompanied by a copy of the document certifying the right of representation (Cabinet Regulation No 250, Paragraph 20.3) ( Annex No 2 ).
- opinion of a general practitioner or a medical practitioner of a relevant specialty for the technical aid ( Appendix 3 ), issued in accordance with the normative acts on the procedure for keeping records of medical documents not later than six months before the submission of the documents if the disability is not determined by sight but technical aids are required due to functional visual impairment
- If the person has a visual impairment on the basis of which a disability has been established, the opinion for the technical aid may be waived.
- If a person applies for a technical aid as a matter of urgency, in addition to the above-mentioned documents, the person shall submit to the Cabinet of Ministers. 250, the documents referred to in sub-paragraph 21 of this paragraph.
Documents should be sent by post or delivered to the Tiflotechnics Department of the Latvian Society for the Blind, Braila iela 3, Rīga, LV-1024.
